Which New York Area Airport Has The Best Passenger Experience?

When it comes to location, New York has a great balance of airports serving the metropolis. On one side of the city, we have John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, while just across the state border in New Jersey, there is Newark Liberty International. LaGuardia Airport also supports domestic and limited international operations well. Out of these sites, which one has the best passenger experience? Let us know below.

Should Ninoy Aquino International Airport Turn Into A Low-Cost Carrier Hub?

By 2028, the highly anticipated New Manila International Airport will be operational, thus clearing up lots of space in the highly congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport. This makes me wonder if NAIA will follow the strategy of using former primary airports as a hub for low-cost carriers.

There are some good examples of former primary airports turning into hotspots for LCCs. These include Paris-Orly, Bangkok Don Mueang, Kuala Lumpur Subang, Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby, Seoul Gimpo, Taipei Songshan, and Shanghai Hongqiao.

Do you think Ninoy Aquino International Airport will soon become a hub for low-cost carriers once the New Manila International Airport opens?

How Many Of The World’s Most Connected Airports Have You Flown Through?

Aviation analytics firm Cirium has published its list of the world’s most connected airports for 2024 based on the number of available destinations. Istanbul Airport earned the top spot, offering 309 destinations, most of which are served by Turkish Airlines, which flies to more countries than any other airline. Frankfurt Airport was a close second, offering 296 destinations, and Paris Charles de Gaulle ranked third in the world with 282 destinations.

Four US airports made the Top 10, but no UK airport did. Of the top 20, half were European airports, four were in China, and two were in the Middle East.

Here’s the list of airports that made the top 20: Istanbul (309 destinations), Frankfurt (296 destinations), Paris CDG (282), Amsterdam (270), Chicago O’Hare (270), Dubai (269), Dallas Fort Worth (261), Shanghai Pudong (243), Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (237), Rome Fiumicino (234), Denver (229), London Heathrow (221), Jeddah Kin

What’s The Quickest Time You’ve Ever Exited An Airport After Landing?

While flying is generally an enjoyable way of traveling from one place to another, long queues at passport control and baggage reclaim can see otherwise pleasant trips end on a sour note. This typically occurs at larger hubs, but is rarer at small airports, which can be incredibly convenient. My personal record is 5 minutes from the plane parking at the gate to getting in a taxi home or entering the train station, achieved in Norwich and London Southend respectively. With that in mind, what’s your fastest airport exit been? Let us know in the comments!

What Are The Most Interesting IATA Airport Codes?

The three-letter designations given by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are a core part of each airport’s identity. While the codes can also be given to train and ferry terminals or metropolitan areas with more than one airport, they often become synonymous with the airport.

According to the IATA, the process of selecting a new code is to start with the first three letters of the location’s name. If unavailable, an unassigned combination can be used, preferably beginning with the first letter of the location’s name. The applicant may also suggest IATA-preferred codes, leading to interesting combinations.

Often, the requested code is an acronym for a proper name, as is the case with New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Other times, it has nothing to do with the city or airport in question and is just enjoyable. Concord-Padgett Regional Airport near Charlotte, North Carolina, uses the patriotic IAT

Why Are There So Few Routes To South America From The UK?

The United Kingdom is one of the most connected countries in the world, with London Heathrow praised for its well-linked network as the busiest airport in Europe, handling nearly 80 million passengers a year. However, as of August, Heathrow only has nonstop flights to four South American cities – Bogota, Santiago, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. In comparison, Madrid is linked to 17 South American airports. Some surprising names, including tourism hotspots such as Peru and Argentina, don’t have flights from London. It’s also important to note that the UK has a fast-growing Latin American diaspora. With Madrid being a stone’s throw away from the capital of the UK, perhaps British Airways leaves its fellow IAG member Iberia to master the Latin American market from Spain. Meanwhile, South American carriers may be finding it hard to grab onto sought-after Heathrow slots. What do you think? Let us know below!

Which Airports Would Benefit From Direct Flights New Orleans?

New Orleans’s Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY) recently broke its passenger records as visitors flooded in for the Talyor Swift Eras tour. The airport is also preparing to experience another surge in visitors for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX, which is scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome with several innovations, including new security equipment.

Airlines often add flights in advance of significant events like the Super Bowl, so additional flights are expected to be announced in the coming months. New Orleans is also known as a destination in its own right but has few international flights. What are some routes that would make sense to add from MSY? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

What Needs To Be Done To Mitigate The Impact Of Airport Climate Protests?

Yesterday, Frankfurt Airport’s operations were thrown off course after protestors cut the fence and glued themselves to operational areas of the airport, creating a safety risk for aircraft. We have seen many such protests in the last few years, and it doesn’t look like they will stop overnight. Harsh penalties are already being sought to deter such actions, but there have also been calls for greater airport security at German Airports. Flying back to Frankfurt yesterday, I saw the fallout firsthand. My aircraft landed late at 23:15, and I saw many people sleeping wherever they could and signs to a makeshift camp. What do you think the solution to mitigate the impact of some protests are? (Photo: Fraport)

Are Four Airports Serving Manila Necessary?

Currently, two airports serve the Greater Manila Area in the Philippines: Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Clark International Airport. In the future, two additional airports will be added, bringing the total to four.

The upcoming airport projects include New Manila International Airport (which won’t open until 2028 due to construction issues) and Sangley International Airport, which will be built near the existing Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Do you think four international airports are necessary to serve Manila?

What Is The Farthest North Airport That You’ve Flown To?

Svalbard Airport is the furthest north commercial airport sitting at a lattitude of 78.246111N, sitting approximately 400 miles from the North Pole.

The farthest north I have ever flown is to Tromso Airport towards the north of Norway, at a lattitude of just 69.681389N, or approximately 2,200km south of the North Pole. What is the farthest north you have flown to an airport? Let us know in the comments below!

Is Seattle-Tacoma Airport Becoming The Next Intercontinental Hub?

Fresh from joining the SkyTeam Alliance, Scandinavian Air Systems (SAS) is expanding its presence in the United States with direct flights to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in Washington State. Flights will resume in May, 57 years after the inaugural flight between the two cities.

SAS is far from the only carrier growing its presence in the Pacific Northwest gateway. Three new routes to Tiapai have launched this year alone, with nonstop connections from Starlux, Eva Air, and Delta Air Lines (which also added connections from SEA to its megahub in Atlanta).

The airport is poised to become even more significant should the Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines merger proceed as expected. The arrival of Hawaiian’s wideboy aircraft will change the dynamic for the home carrier Alaska Airlines, which already offers a range of award redemption options on oneworld Alliance and partner carriers.

Do you think Seattle is aiming to become the next major hub for international traffic

Which Airports Are The Easiest For Transiting?

Despite significant advancements in direct flights in recent years, many routes still and will require transiting along the way. Some airports are masters at connecting passengers, designed to quickly shift travelers on their next flight. However, others have more tedious steps along the way. For me, I find that transiting in Dubai International is as seamless as ever. It’s been carefully formed to ensure a smooth path for passengers and their bags to swap over to their connecting flights as easily as possible. Which other airports do you think are the easiest for transit passengers? Let us know below!

How Long Before Your Flight Should You Arrive At The Airport?

Some passengers feel it’s crucial to arrive at the airport many hours ahead of their flight. Others are okay with walking in closer to the departure time. During normal operations, many airports and airlines across Europe and North America advise arriving three hours in advance for long-haul flights and two hours for short-haul services. I usually adhere to this guidance just to be safe. However, do you feel passengers should arrive sooner? Let us know below!

Jetbridge Or Bus: What Is Your Favourite Way To Board An Aircraft?

Most airports worldwide have three primary ways of boarding an aircraft. Aircraft may be boarded by jetbridge directly from the terminal where space and infrastructure allow. Others see passengers loaded onto a bus and driven to a remote stand where they board the aircraft by stairs. If the aircraft is close enough, such as at London City Airport, the passengers will walk out to the aircraft and then board via the stairs.

Personally, I hate it when there is a bus going to the aircraft. I much prefer the convenience of walking down a jetbridge and right onto an aircraft. By contrast, I know that many aviation enthusiasts love the plane-spotting opportunities the bus offers. What do you think? Do you love or hate a bus ride around the airport? Let us know what you think and why in the comments below!

Should All US Domestic First Class Tickets Come With Lounge Access?

Flying in premium cabins comes with a great deal of benefits, and not just onboard the aircraft. Indeed, passengers traveling on business and first class tickets can often avail themselves of perks such as priority check-in, fast-track security, and, of course, lounge access. However, one part of the airline industry where this doesn’t apply is for holders of domestic first class tickets in the US, as, generally speaking, such fares do not automatically come with lounge access. Instead, this is determined by frequent flyer status. While many first class passengers will have sufficient status anyway, such a system does seem unfair for those who don’t but may be treating themselves to a premium flight as a one-off, and would therefore appreciate the lounge access more than the million-milers that get it every time. I therefore think that all US domestic first class tickets should come with some form of lounge access, but what about you? Let us know in the comments!

What Do You Think Of Tracking Baggage With Personal Trackers Such As Apple’s AirTags?

More and more travelers are placing tracking devices into their baggage following negative press about lost and delayed luggage over the past few years. Personally, I always travel with an AirTag in all of my bags. On my most recent trip to Frankfurt, having my AirTag meant that I knew it was in Frankfurt and was able to collect it when Lufthansa hadn’t even located it. I’ll write a story to go into more depth soon… In the meantime we want to know what you think about passengers travelling with AirTags and equivalent trackers. Let us know your thoughts below! Does Washington DC Need Another Airport?

Three airport airports currently serve the United States capital with commercial flights. Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest to the city but is notoriously slot-constrained and primarily limited to domestic flights shorter than 1,250 miles.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) serves as the city’s primary long-haul gateway and a hub for United Airlines, while Baltimore Washington International (BWI) in Maryland is the busiest of the three.

Meanwhile, Manassas Regional Airport (MNZ), a.k.a. Harry P. Davis Field, the busiest General Aviation Airport in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is looking to restart commercial operations. Located around 30 miles from DC, the airport recently teamed up with Dulles Airport-based Avports, with the primary focus of getting Federal Aviation Administration approval for commercial passenger flights.

The airport’s operators and Avports are looking to operate about ten flights per day, starting by the end of 2025, with a primary

Will Raleigh-Durham Soon Become A Delta Hub?

Recently, Delta appears to be gaining traction at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. They currently hold the second-largest market share at the airport, only behind American Airlines, which is reducing its presence due to already having a hub in Charlotte.

In my opinion, Raleigh-Durham seems like an ideal opportunity for Delta to establish a hub to compete with American’s nearby Charlotte hub. It’s also worth noting that two of Delta’s major airline partners, Aeroméxico and Air France, began service to Raleigh-Durham just last year. This expansion into Raleigh-Durham also provides some relief for Delta’s busy Atlanta hub.

While it may be too early to tell, Delta’s growing presence at Raleigh-Durham could potentially pose a future threat to American Airlines in North Carolina.

What do you think?

Which US Airport Is Underserved From Europe?

The United States is well served by airlines flying to and from Europe. Legacy carriers from the country combine with international powerhouses across the Atlantic to carry passengers to the likes of New York, LA, Miami, and Chicago several times a day.

Still, some destinations in the US aren’t so heavily connected to Europe, particularly in Middle America. Which airports do you feel could benefit from greater transatlantic links? Let us know what you think below!
