Apple is set to launch its first M4-powered Macs in a series of announcements starting Monday, October 28, marking a significant refresh of its Mac lineup. No event, just press releases
According to multiple supply chain reports and industry sources, Apple plans to unveil updated versions of the MacBook Pro, iMac, and a dramatically redesigned Mac mini. Rather than hosting a traditional media event, the company will release the products through a series of press releases throughout the week, with hands-on demonstrations planned for select creators in Los Angeles.
Mac mini gets biggest overhaul
The most substantial changes are expected to come to the Mac mini, which sources say will receive its biggest redesign in years. The new model will reportedly shrink to a form factor similar to the Apple TV, though slightly taller, marking a significant reduction from its current size.
MacBook Pro to get M4 upgrade
For the MacBook Pro line, the base 14-inch model is set to receive notable upgrades. Reports indicate it will feature 16GB of RAM standard—double the previous generation’s starting memory—and an expanded selection of three Thunderbolt 4 ports. The new M4 chip inside will offer a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU configuration, improving upon the M3’s 8-core CPU design. Higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch models will feature more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.
iMac is too getting its M4 chip
The 24-inch iMac will also transition to the M4 chip, which first appeared in the iPad Pro earlier this year. Like the MacBook Pro, it’s expected to start with 16GB of RAM and feature additional CPU cores compared to its predecessor. No significant design changes are anticipated for the iMac.
Apple Intelligence arrives
The announcements will coincide with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 software updates, which brings the first wave of Apple Intelligence features. The software updates are slated to roll out on Monday.
