Late-model MacBook Pro laptops include a decent camera. But many users find it falls a bit short for use on their video calls, podcasts and other needs. So a display-mounted webcam creeps into many MacBook setups. Today’s MacBook Pro user relies on the well-regarded Logitech StreamCam webcam to punch up his video footage.

MacBook Pro user relies on Logitech StreamCam webcam for video calls

Redditor bottomlesscoffeecup (“Cup”) showcased the functional but somewhat bland-looking setup in a post entitled, “Lighting Advice? Added MacBook stand next to ultrawide but now looking a bit dark around it.” He uses a MacBook Pro open on a stand to drive an LG ultra-wide display. But he thinks his setup looks a little too dark. It appears he already has some sort of RGB light behind the desk, but he wants something else in addition to that.

We covered the advice he got on lighting last week. Now we look at reasons to seek out good setup lighting — ideal conditions for his Logitech StreamCam webcam and the resulting footage he captures on it for video calls and the like.

While Cup likes the StreamCam, he notes that a good webcam alone isn’t going to make you look great.

“It’s pretty good, (to be honest), like most cameras, it’s not going to make you look great if you don’t have a light source for your face, too,” he said. “I was a bit sad initially because I thought I bought a potato cam, but its just that I needed more lighting on a lot of the grey Scottish days.”
