Apple could announce new MacBook Pro models with M4 chips later this month, according to a report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors).
“Apple is expected to unveil new MacBook Pro models equipped with the latest M4 chip in October, which could boost related component shipments,” reads the new report. “This trend is evident in the revenue reports from component manufacturers such as Jarllytec and Shin Zu Shing for September.”
The news comes after reports previously indicated Apple would launch its first Macs with all-new M4 chips towards the end of this year. These are expected to include a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M4 chip, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, a new M4 iMac, and a more compact Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips (but no USB-A ports, interestingly).
We’ve already seen the M4 chip in action in the 2024 iPad Pro released earlier this year. However, the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips are yet to be spotted in the wild. What’s more, a retail-ready 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M4 chip was recently leaked after a Russian content creator published a comprehensive unboxing video featuring it.
Going by the video, the base M4 MacBook Pro won’t feature any significant design changes — with the exception of a new, third Thunderbolt 4 port (as opposed to two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the current entry-level model). The video also revealed that Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup could start with 16GB of RAM instead of just 8GB with the M4 models.
While Apple and its supply chain partners are seemingly gearing up to release all-new Macs, the tech giant hasn’t announced any events for this month. That said, the company could always launch new Mac models with minimal fanfare and just a press release — much like it did with the new iPad mini this week.
