Spotify has launched a Francophone content report for the first time, showing how French music and podcasts are thriving on the platform.
In the past year, more than one in six Spotify global monthly active users listened to French music and podcasts on Spotify.
According to Spotify:
Quebec locals Les Cowboys Fringants are the most-listened to Francophone artists in North America, ahead of Stromae, Souldia, and Indila.
- Montreal-based Patrick Watson’s Je te laisserai des mots is the most-listened to Francophone track across all non-Francophone markets.
The report also shows:
- Spotify’s audience of French content equates to over 100 million users located in non-Francophone countries around the world.Francophone streams for music have grown by 94% from 2019 to 2024.
- 83 billion hours were played of Francophone music during the time span covered by the report (August 2023 to July 2024) by users not located in Francophone markets.
- Over 39 million users not located in a Francophone country added Francophone music to their personal playlists during that time span.
The most listened-to French-language tracks on the platform include:

- Dernière danse – Indila 🇫🇷
- Alors on danse – Stromae 🇧🇪

When Spotify launched free audiobooks for Premium subscribers in Canada, French podcasts had increased by 2,461 percent. With Canada’s French and bilingual population, it makes sense that many are listening to French podcasts. Even I, who took French Immersion in school (a billion years ago) will occasionally enjoy French rap music.
Spotify also says that Quebecers love their local authors and have an appreciation for science fiction and true crime podcasts.
The music streaming service recorded this feature worldwide between August 1st, 2023 and July 31st, 2024.
