If you’re sitting on one of these consoles, it might be worth digging it out to see if you have a hidden treasure on your hands.
Video game collectors are paying top dollar for retro consoles, according to a new study. The research, conducted by gaming site Clash.gg, looked at eBay sales over the past three months to determine the most expensive retro consoles in the U.S.
The Atari Jaguar CD tops the list as the most expensive, selling for an average of around $1,080 on eBay, which is over seven times its original price of $150. Despite its short lifespan (released in 1995 and discontinued in 1996), it’s now highly sought after, especially since only 13 games were ever made for it.

Next up is the Sega Master System, which now averages $509, more than twice its original $200 price tag. Although it didn’t dominate the U.S. market, it was successful in Europe and Brazil.
In third place is the original Atari Jaguar, fetching around $480—nearly double its original price of $250. This console had a short run, too, released in 1993 and discontinued in 1996, which has likely contributed to its rarity.
Also on the list is the Nintendo Virtual Boy, selling for an average of $327. While its 3D graphics were groundbreaking at the time, poor sales led to its quick discontinuation just a year after its launch.
Rounding out the top five is the then-$180 Sega Nomad, which now goes for around $260. It was released in 1995 as a portable version of the Sega Genesis.
Other retro consoles still going for relatively significant prices include the Neo Geo, now selling for around $210 despite its hefty original price tag of $650. The Atari Lynx II comes next at $204, followed by the quirky Pokémon mini, which now goes for $198, much more than its original $40. The list also features the original Atari Lynx at $188 and the Sega Saturn, valued at $165.
Some of these consoles were commercial failures at launch but have gained significant value over time due to their rarity. As Gabriele Asaro from Clash.gg noted, “Many sold poorly at the time and have now surged in value… anyone holding these consoles should check their value.”
