Spotify’s AI Playlist is going global. The platform revealed recently that its beta feature is expanding from its initial testing grounds to an additional four countries: the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand.
AI Playlist first became available to Spotify Premium users in April 2024 in the UK and Australia. As the name suggests, the tool creates playlists through the power of generative AI like ChatGPT.

Here’s how it works: From “Your Library” you first tap the Plus button over at the top-right corner and select “AI Playlist.” You then choose a pre-made prompt or create one of your own. Spotify recommends users “get creative and be specific.” The more details you give the AI, the more precise and personal the resulting playlist will be.
For example, you can command the AI to pull together a series of tracks for a romantic date night at home or create a mix tape of upbeat pop songs. Spotify claims that “the most successful playlists” are made utilizing prompts that mention different “genres, moods, artists, (and) decades”.
After receiving a prompt, the feature generates a preview tracklist that you can edit. You can either delete a song or command the AI “to refine the playlist with additional prompts.” Once you’re happy with the selection, hit Create and the playlist will be saved automatically to Your Library. Pretty simple stuff.
As before, AI Playlist will only be available in English to Premium subscribers on Android and iOS. There’s nothing yet for Spotify AI on the web or the desktop app.

Spotify says that because the feature is still in beta, it “won’t produce results for non-music-related prompts” such as current events. Does this imply that the final version will support non-music inputs? We can’t say for sure.
Also, the company states it implemented security measures to reject potentially offensive prompts. No word yet on when the AI Playlist will exit its beta state.
