Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have only been on sale for a few days, but there are already reports of issues. Some owners of the new iPhone 16 Pro claim that they are experiencing problems that result in their swipes and taps not being correctly registered by iOS.
It isn’t unheard of for there to be reports of problems whenever Apple releases a new product, and the iPhone is definitely no different.
Now, 9to5Mac reports that there are complaints online — and under its own testing — that a software bug is causing iOS not to correctly detect when users swipe or tap their iPhone 16 Pro displays.
The issue appears to relate to Apple’s touch rejection system, a system that is supposed to identify when a touch is accidental in order to ensure unwanted on-screen commands are entered.
An increasing number of iPhone 16 Pro owners are reporting intermittent issues with their phone’s touchscreen responsiveness. Users experience taps and swipes seemingly being ignored, which affects various interactions like scrolling, pressing buttons, and missed presses on keys on the virtual keyboard.
If this is indeed a software issue, rather than hardware, we can surely expect that Apple will release a new software update that will address these problems sooner rather than later. For now though, there isn’t an awful lot that iPhone 16 Pro owners can do about an issue that is sure to be particularly irritating for those impacted.
