GAME NOTES| FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (Including this match): Horan (150), Dunn (149), Naeher (106), Lavelle (102), Swanson (94), Davidson (60), Fox (51), Smith (50), Rodman (40), Girma (34), Coffey (19)
- Tuesday’s lineup averages 27.4 years of age and 77 caps per player and features just one different player from the XI that started on Saturday against Mexico, with Dunn starting at left back in place of Jenna Nighswonger.
- Five players in this starting lineup saw action in the most recent matchup against Costa Rica in the semifinals of the 2022 Concacaf W Championship. Lindsey Horan, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith all started the match, with Swanson scoring the USA’s second goal just before halftime. Naomi Girma and Trinity Rodman came on as substitutes in the second half.
- Midfielder Lindsey Horan will captain the team for the 28th time in career as she makes her team-leading 11th start of 2024. Horan, who leads the U.S. in total minutes played this year, is set to make her 150th international appearance, becoming the 25th player in USWNT history to earn 150 or more caps.
- Alyssa Naeher, who wore the captain’s armband against Mexico as she was honored for her 100th cap, will make her ninth appearance of 2024 – all of them starts – as she earns her 106th cap overall for the USWNT. Naeher has 63 shutouts in her 105 caps, with four clean sheets so far in 2024.
- Emily Fox, who on Saturday became the 67th player in USWNT history to earn 50 caps, will make her 51st international appearance and her ninth start of 2024. Fox is third among all U.S. field players in total minutes played this year and has appeared in all but one match for the USWNT since the start of 2023.
- Naomi Girma is set to make her 34th international appearance and eighth start of 2024. Girma played the full 90 minutes in the July 13 win over Mexico and has gone the distance in six of her seven appearances with the USWNT in 2024 and in 25 of 33 matches so far in her USWNT career.
- The only player to appear in every match for the USWNT since the start of 2023, Trinity Rodman will make her 30th consecutive appearance for the USWNT as she earns her 40th cap overall. At 22 years, 57 days of age, Rodman is the 12th youngest player in USWNT history to reach 40 caps and the youngest to do so since 20-year-old Mallory Swanson in 2018.
- Rodman, who is now in her fourth season with the Washington Spirit, is tied for the team lead with three assists in 2024 but is still looking for her first goal of the year with the USA. She has nine goals in 35 matches across all competitions with the Spirit at Audi Field, including two goals at home during the 2024 NWSL regular season.
- After coming off the bench in the July 13 win over Mexico, Crystal Dunn will earn her 149th cap as she makes her sixth start and ninth appearance overall of 2024. Dunn, one of three three-time Olympians on this U.S. roster, has spent time as a forward and outside back over the USA’s last four matches and scored her first goal for the USWNT since 2018 in her most recent start on June 4 against South Korea.
- Mallory Swanson, who assisted Sophia Smith’s game-winning goal on Saturday in New Jersey, will earn her 94th cap as she makes her fourth start of 2024. Swanson, who began her professional career with the Washington Spirit in 2017, created a team-high five chances in the win over Mexico and has four goal contributions in her three games for the USWNT (two goals, two assists).
- Sophia Smith is set to make her 50th international appearance, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to reach 50 caps for USWNT. Smith scored her 20th international goal in the USA’s 1-0 win over Mexico at Red Bull Arena, tied for the ninth-most by any player in USWNT history through 50 caps.
- With her goal on Saturday, Smith has goals in back-to-back games for the first time in her international career and now has a goal contribution in each of her last four games (four goals, one assist), the longest such streak of her career and the longest by any USWNT player in 2024.
- Tierna Davidson will make her ninth appearance of 2024 – all of them starts – as she earns her 60th cap for the USWNT. At 25 years, 300 days of age, Davidson is the youngest pure defender to reach 60 caps for the USWNT since Stephanie Cox in 2011 (23 years, 362 days). All but one of Davidson’s starts at center back this year have been alongside the 24-year-old Girma, her former teammate at Stanford University.
- Rose Lavelle will make her sixth start and 10th appearance overall this year as she earns her 102nd cap. The fourth-most experienced player on this Olympic roster, Lavelle is tied with Rodman for the team lead with three assists in 2024.
- One of six players to appear in every match for the USWNT so far this year, Sam Coffey will earn her 19th cap for the USWNT as she makes her 10th start of 2024. Coffey is second on the team in starts and total minutes played this year, trailing only Horan in both categories.
