Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup of devices isn’t expected to be released to the world until September which means that the devices are still some months off, but we’re seeing more and more leaks relating to the handsets as we get closer to that time.
The latest comes from the well-connected supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and suggests that Apple is getting ready to make some tweaks to the new iPhones’ battery.
According to Ming-Chi Ming-Chi Kuo, writing in a Medium post, Apple is going to increase the density of the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery compared to the previous model, allowing it to offer more power in the same size component.
My latest supply chain survey indicates the energy density (Wh/kg) of the battery cells of iPhone 16 Pro Max will increase, which has the benefit of longer battery life with the same battery size or lower battery size with the same battery life.
Alternatively, Apple could choose to reduce the size of the battery without negatively impacting the battery life compared to the outgoing iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The same report also goes on to say that Apple is going to change the way the battery is installed in an attempt to make it easier to remove.
The use of a stainless steel battery case also reduces the difficulty of removing the battery, which will help Apple comply with the European Union’s requirements for mobile phone batteries’ replaceability in the future.
It remains to be seen whether any of this is going to prove to be the case or not, but as son have pointed out previously, Kuo doesn’t seem to be the always-accurate source of this kind of information that he once was. As we get closer to the release of the iPhone 16 lineup of phones we can perhaps expect more leaks that will confirm the accuracy later.
