AirTag stalkers are a persistent problem for users. After reports of AirTag-based stalking popped up years ago, users have worried of unwanted trackers getting attached to their person as they move. Today, both Apple and Google have released a new update to warn users of unauthorized trackers, regardless of platform.

While the device helps users locate missing items, malicious parties have used the trackers to follow people around or hunt for valuables to steal. When the tracker first launched, detecting an errant tracker was like finding a needle in a haystack. There was just no way, especially if you were using an Android smartphone for your daily driver.

Last year, Apple and Google teamed up to develop a way to detect trackers, regardless of device. Today, both companies are finally rolling out the feature for users everywhere.

Covering iOS 17.5 and Android 6.0 (and later), the feature will alert users, specifically with a “(Tracker Name) Moving With You” alert. It will also allow users to force the tracker to make noise for easy finding. If throwing the tracker away isn’t an option, it will instruct users on how to disable the tracking, too.

Critically, the anti-stalking measure will work with all sorts of trackers. AirTags are, of course, the main target, but the feature will also detect trackers from Chipolo, Eufy, Jio, Motorola, Pebblebee, Samsung, and Tile.

Of note, Google has not released its rumored Bluetooth tracker yet. With Google I/O right around the corner, the feature’s rollout might be a definitive sign that the device is coming soon.
