Three crew members were taken to hospital after Bonza flight AB 626 from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday afternoon.
Passenger Layla Hutchinson said the chaos was like something “out of a movie”.
“It was like something I’ve never felt before because I know what turbulence feels like,” she told Sunrise on Thursday.
“We all screamed.”
Hutchinson and her boyfriend had their seatbelts on but she said many passengers did not, as the seatbelt sign was switched off at the time.
“They didn’t predict any turbulence at all, then all of a sudden it felt like we dropped 100m in, like, 10 seconds,” she said.
“Everyone just screamed, a lot of people were crying, the kid behind me fell out of his seat.
“A lot of people did jump quite high.”
Hutchinson said everyone in the cabin was shaken by the ordeal.
“We just looked at each other like, ‘What was that?’,” she said.
The aircraft landed safely at Sunshine Coast Airport.
Bonza chief executive Tim Jordan said crew members were injured as a result of the “unexpected and severe turbulence”.
They were assessed at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and were cleared to return home on Tuesday night.
Jordan said no customers were injured in the incident.
“Our priority is always the safety of our staff and customers and we will be supporting our in-flight legends as they need,” Jordan said.
