Now, the company has confirmed that the new lossless audio feature on the VisionPro is only available with the newly launched AirPods Pro 2 that has a USB-C port.
Brian Tong, Apple’s Vice President of Sensing and Connectivity, has now explained the reason behind this in a video interaction with YouTuber Ron Huang.
According to Brian, the new AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C (review) are powered by the H2 chip, which supports a 5GHz wireless frequency, while the original AirPods Pro 2 with the H1 chip is limited to 2.5GHz. The higher wireless bandwidth on the AirPods Pro 2 with the new chip allows Apple to enable lossless audio support on the newer model.
