SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) is alerting SNAP participants about an increase in theft related to skimming and cloning of EBT cards.
According to the agency, many Missouri residents have reported their benefits being stolen, with most incidents occurring in stores outside the state.
MoDSS says the best way to protect SNAP benefits is by using the ebtEDGE app, which offers the following:
- Freeze benefits: Temporarily disable their benefits when not in use, preventing unauthorized spending.
- Block Out-of-State Transactions: Ensure that benefits can only be used within Missouri.
- Change PIN: Easily and quickly change their PIN, enhancing the security of their card.
If your SNAP benefits have been stolen via skimming, cloning, or phishing, you can submit an Electronically Stolen Benefit Replacement Request form. Funds for the replacement of stolen SNAP benefits will end on Dec. 20, 2024. DSS will continue to process claims if they occurred on or before Dec. 20, 2024.
