The new Apple iPhone 16 lineup has barely been out for two week, iOS 18 was only released days before, and iPadOS 18 for Apple’s tablets was pulled one day after only its release because it bricked a number of iPad Pros with the M43 CPU, and Apple already has an important update to its mobile operating system.
On Friday, Apple released iOS 18.01 and iPadOS 18.01 to provide bug fixes and important security updates.
The iOS 18.01 update remedies a fairly troubling password bug that could occur on most iPhones as well as on many iPad models in which the VoiceOver app might read the user’s passwords out loud.
The update fixes how the touchscreen occasionally became unresponsive on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, addresses a memory allocation issue on some iPhones that slowed the device down, and remedied the fairly specific issue in which the Messages app may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message which included a shared Apple Watch face.
The updated to the mobile operating system addresses security vulnerabilities involving the built-in Messages and Passwords apps.
The new iOS 18.01 update should appear during the iOS setup process if the user hasn’t yet upgraded the device, or it can be installed via the Settings app under General → Software Update, or Allgemein → Softwareupdate on devices set to German.
