The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) committed over $8 million in funding to help bring high-speed fibre internet to 16 rural communities in Manitoba.
Per a release from the Canadian government, the CRTC is using its Broadband Fund for the project. Westman Communications Group was tapped to build roughly 310km of transport fibre infrastructure.
The CRTC says the project will improve access to reliable, high-quality internet service.
The CRTC launched its Broadband Fund in 2019 to help connect rural, remote, and Indigenous communities across Canada. To date, the fund has improved internet and cellphone service in 270 communities.
