According to this report by The Next Web, Apple Could Be Working on an All-Glass Display MacBook Revealed in Newly Granted Patent. The reported device may also replace the hardware-based keyboard with a virtual keyboard, similar to Asus Zenbook Duo OLED, and has also been rumored to include a shaker module that creates low-frequency audio output. What’s interesting is that this is not the first time in discussion that something of this kind has emerged from an Apple product. Reports on this purported MacBook have, however, emerged over the recent couple of years, and the current patent only seems to hold stronger claims that its development might be in the offing.
Apple Files Patent for All-Glass MacBook
An electronic device that could be developed by Apple may use the user interface for text input capability, according to a patent granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (via PatentlyApple). Otherwise, it would serve other functions, much like the rest of the housing surfaces, when that is not the case. Part of this is allegedly going to be a virtual keyboard and trackpad on the rumored MacBook.
The said housing is also designed to feature the protection of the purported device’s internal components and also to contribute to an aesthetic appearance. However it is not one which is incorporated to any opening of the said device. The icons of the ports would thus be projected onto the housing; hence, this would help the user in inserting them.
Apart from having a fully glass body, the rumored MacBook would also have a “shaker module”. Its patent document hints that it might emit controlled vibrations through low frequency output.
The purported shaker module can be mounted on any device’s surface within constrained height, and may be able to reproduce low frequency sounds in devices that do not have enough room to install dedicated components.
It should be noted, however that most patented devices don’t make it to the production level. In such an event, one cannot tell whether the MacBook with an all-glass design claimed by Apple will make it to future markets.
