This time around, it has taken upon breaking down Apple’s latest hardware, the AirPods 4, in its new teardown video. The detailed review gives us a look at the inside of the wireless earbuds packed both with ANC capability and without ANC, as well as the AirPods Max with the USB-C port.

iFixit has described the AirPods as very hard to repair for a while and has been consistently scoring low and the AirPods 4 scoring a 0 out of 10 for its repairability due to the sleek and compact design that makes disassembling the device, as said in the video, ‘a nightmare.’ Since making adjustments without damaging the earbuds is almost impossible, it is given such a low score on the fixing process. The AirPods Max are said to be bordering on repairability by scoring 6 out of 10.
The teardown highlights that AirPods 4 has not undergone any major internal changes from the previous generation, and the battery life of the AirPods 4 charging case without ANC is the same as the AirPods 3 standing at 345 mAh capacity so there are not any significant improvements in this department as well.
The revamped AirPods Max that came out alongside the AirPods 4 is also dissected in the teardown video, and much to users’ dismay, no internal differences worth mentioning were found compared to the original AirPods Max apart from the transition from the Lightning port to the USB-C port.
When it comes to Apple’s wireless earbuds, iFixit continues to suggest that the Cupertino tech giant is focused on the design aspect more than repairability, as negligible changes are made to improve the AirPods’ repair process. Apple should focus more on product longevity, especially when it comes to its wearables, so the user experience can be improved when it comes to fixing the device for issues.
