Trái ngược hoàn toàn với trailer đầu tiên, Lara Croft mới của Hayley Atwell thực sự được phát bộ. Trong đoạn trailer này, cô đã trao đổi châm biếm với những giọng khen chê liên tục trong phần đầu tiên. Mặc dù nhân vật này có vẻ như một bước tiến ngang cho Atwell sau khi đóng vai Peggy Carter trong MCU suốt thập kỷ qua, cô vẫn là sự lựa chọn hoàn hảo cho Croft.
Dường như bảo toàn các yếu tố siêu nhiên của loạt phim Survivor (nhiều dòng sông với bảo vật cụ thể, từ cái nhìn của mình…) cái nhìn mới nhất về loạt phim này cuối cùng đã mang lại cho Lara cặp súng lừng danh của mình một lần nữa, điều đó thật hài hước khi nhân vật này sau cú reboot từ năm 2013 đã thành công trong việc có được một khoảnh khắc “lấy súng” khoảng 3 lần trên nhiều phương tiện truyền thông khác nhau. Trailer cũng được đánh điểm qua một bản remix nhẹ nhàng với câu “Gold Guns Girls” của Metric, ngay cả khi bài hát chỉ gần đây đã xuất hiện trong một dự án hoạt hình của Netflix khác, Nimona hồi năm ngoái (chưa kể Zombieland và Totally Spies! The Movie). Đừng đụng vào thành công, mình đoán vậy.

Netflix has released a second trailer for its upcoming Tomb Raider animated series that is far, far less of a stone-cold bummer than the first one. Feast your eyes, below:
Unlike the first trailer, Hayley Atwell’s new Lara Croft actually gets to speak in this one, trading barbs with the constant voices of criticism all over the first. Though the character feels a bit like a lateral move for Atwell after playing Peggy Carter in the MCU for the last decade, she’s still a perfectly-cast choice for Croft.
Apparently retaining the supernatural elements of the Survivor series (lots of location-specific temple guards, from the look of things…) our latest look at the series finally gives Lara her iconic, dual pistols back again, which is funny considering this post-2013 reboot of the character has successfully managed to have a “get the pistols” moment about 3 times across multiple mediums now. The trailer is also scored to a somber, reverb-drenched remix of Metric’s Scarface-inspired “Gold Guns Girls” to great effect, even if the song just made a recent appearance in another animated Netflix project, last year’s Nimona (not to mention Zombieland and Totally Spies! The Movie). Don’t mess with success, I guess.
Weirdly enough, Netflix has yet to release a full cast list for this series, but in addition to Atwell, we know The Legend of Lara Croft also includes the voices of Richard Armitage as the villainous Devearaux (great bad guy name), Allen Maldonando as Lara’s tech expert, Zip, and Earl Baylon as her traveling companion, Jonah Maiava. Don’t get too attached to the last two, though, since the official logline states the show sees our hero “abandoning her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures.” However, Croft will have to “return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection,” with Lara’s “daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”
Personally, I’m more excited than I thought I’d be to see the continuing adventures of an unapologetic, gun-toting action hero who robs graves for a living. I like this character. How about you?
